Seat tester GM

The client required a single station to test a seat’s clock spring, while measuring effort, angular displacement, current and vibrations.

The test also required the use of a weight system to simulate a loaded seat and increase the reliability of the test.

Due to the complexity of the station requirements, the frame was divided into three main components: Lower Frame, Upper Frame and Weight System.

LG AUTOMATION designed a station with multiple functions.

Pneumatic vibration dampeners were chosen to ensure the vibration testing wouldn’t receive any interfering noise.

The station integrated DYTRAN load cells as well as POSITAL FRABA inclinometers, while reporting and analyzing their measurements in LabVIEW.

The vibrations testing was accomplished with the use of BRUEL & KJAER accelerometers, and the weight system was made-to-order by LG AUTOMATION.

The seat was unlocked by using a SIEMENS servomotor, and while unlocked, the seat frame was moved by a large steel frame coupled to a second servomotor.
